Give your gold jewelry a new lease on life

A piece of jewelry may no longer suit your style, may be damaged, or may have been tucked away for years. However, that doesn't mean it has lost its sentimental value.

Through a personalized process, we evaluate each piece to determine how we can reuse its gold, preserve its gemstones whenever possible, and create a renewed piece of jewelry that reflects your personality.

How does the “Transform Your Jewelry” service work?

Step 1. We receive and appraise your jewelry

Evaluación y pesaje de una joya de oro

To begin the process, we need to physically receive the jewelry at our workshop. There, we can weigh it, verify the quality of the gold, and assess its condition.

If you're in Guayaquil, you can stop by our store with the part so we can assess it.

If you live in another city, you can safely send us your jewelry via Servientrega. Once we receive it, we'll appraise it and keep you informed throughout the process.

This step is essential for understanding the material we'll be working with and preparing an accurate quote.

Step 2. Let's design your new piece of jewelry together

We'll discuss your ideas, needs, and style to determine the design you want.

Our goal is to create a piece that preserves the emotional value of your original piece of jewelry while also reflecting your personality.

Step 3. We review the materials and prepare a quote

We check to see if there is enough gold available to produce the new design.

We also assess whether it will be necessary to add more material or incorporate new gemstones. Based on this information, we prepare a personalized quote.

Step 4. The transformation begins

Once the quote is approved, we begin crafting your new piece of jewelry using a completely handmade process.

Preparation time

The time required will depend on the availability of the gems needed for the new design.

If we have the gemstones in stock, the process takes between 15 and 20 business days.

If a gemstone needs to be sourced for a special order, the wait time to receive it may be up to 2 months Once it is available, production will take between 15 and 20 business days.

Transparency in the process: gold refining and loss

We want you to understand each step and feel completely confident when transforming gold jewelry.

During the artisanal process, there is a natural loss equivalent to approximately 10% of the gold, once the piece has been disassembled, the stones have been removed, and the metal has been melted down.

Proceso de fundición para transformar joyas de oro

This loss occurs because, during jewelry making, a small amount of material is lost in processes such as:

  • Cast
  • Filed
  • Polished
  • Final finishing touches

These are small particles of gold that can no longer be recovered and are a normal part of the artisanal manufacturing process.

For example, if after removing the stones and melting down the piece we obtain 10 grams of gold, it is estimated that approximately 9 grams will be usable for further work. The remaining 10% corresponds to the loss inherent in the process.

In addition, when we disassemble your jewelry, we record a video of the process so you can see exactly what materials we’re working with.

Occasionally, we find small pieces of iron or other metals inside the jewelry, either from previous repairs or from its original manufacture.

These elements may increase the piece’s weight, but they are not gold. We will always inform you of any such findings during the disassembly and melting process.

Frequently Asked Questions About Gold Jewelry Remodeling

How much does the service cost?

Every transformation is unique.

The price will depend on the design you choose, the amount of gold available, any additional materials that may be required, and the gemstones included.

For this reason, we provide a customized quote for each project.

Can I keep the stones from my original piece of jewelry?

In most cases, it is possible to reuse the original stones.

However, it all depends on how they are set—that is, on the way they were placed in the piece of jewelry.

Some settings apply a great deal of pressure to the metal to secure the stone. When removing the stone, there is a risk that it could crack or break.

We take the greatest possible care to remove them safely, but there is always an inherent risk involved in the process, especially with very small stones.

Larger stones held in place by prongs are generally easier to remove and pose less risk during extraction.

Can any piece of gold be melted down?

In most cases, yes. However, some parts require further evaluation before we can confirm that they are suitable for processing.

This is especially true for very fine chains, since each of their links is usually joined by soldering. As a result, these pieces may contain a significant proportion of solder mixed with the gold.

When we receive a chain like this, we first test it in our workshop. We melt down a small sample to evaluate how the metal behaves and verify that the gold is of sufficient quality to be used in the creation of a new piece of jewelry.

Excessive welding can affect the final result. That is why we always perform this check before proceeding with the transformation.

We are committed to ensuring that the new part is of the highest possible quality and to providing you with clear information throughout the entire process.

Do I need an appointment to get started?

Yes.

If you're in Guayaquil, we recommend scheduling an appointment to have your jewelry appraised and discuss the design.

If you live in another city, you can send us the piece via Servientrega to get the process started.

Is the gold from my original piece of jewelry used?

Yes. We always use the gold provided by the customer to craft the new piece.

However, during the process, an additional amount of gold is usually needed to ensure that the design is executed properly.

The additional amount will depend on the type of jewelry being made. For example, some designs, such as monograms or names, require more material.

Even if the finished piece weighs approximately 2 grams, the manufacturing process may require between 5 and 6 grams of gold.

If the gold you provide is not sufficient, we can add the missing amount from our workshop. In that case, your gold will be mixed with the gold we provide; we will always inform you of this in advance and include it in the quote.

Is it always necessary to melt down jewelry?

Not always.

Each project is evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Depending on the design and condition of the piece, we may take it apart and reuse some of its components to create a completely different piece of jewelry, without having to melt it down entirely.

In other cases, it will be necessary to melt down the gold to create the new piece.

The best option will depend on the desired result and the characteristics of the original piece of jewelry.

What if there isn't enough gold for the new design?

We'll let you know before we start the work.

We can add the gold needed to complete the piece or adapt the design based on the amount of material available.
